You may notice more activity in the night sky than usual this weekend thanks to the Orionid meteor shower. Clear skies in the Hudson Valley should result in a fantastic view.

According to Space.com, the best time to view the meteor showers is around 1:30 in the morning. They recommend to give your eyes about 20 minutes to adjust to the darkness. Do your best to get away from any light pollution for best results.

The meteor shower originates near the Orion constellation and is actually remnants of Halley's Comet. A comet that is only seen once every 75 years. Twice a year, in May and October/November, the planet passes through its trail and the results can be fun to watch.

Meteor expert Bill Cooke from NASA expects there to be just north of 30 per hour. So you should be seeing one at least every minute or two. The showers run through 11/9 but this will be the best weekend. Let us know how it goes if you head out tonight.
