So the MLB Draft has come and gone. The Mets spent a lot of picks in the first 2 days selecting college players, and a lot of players that seemed to do very well in the independent summer leagues, like the Cape Cod League. They then spent the third day drafting a lot of younger players, most likely hoping to entice a few of them to forgo their college commitments.

Regardless, why not spend a blog catching up with the past few years of the Mets first round draft picks.

2015: Desmond Lindsay, OF. Technically he was their 2nd round pick, but first of the draft. He was supposed to start the season in Columbia with the Fireflies, but apparently there were concussion issues and the Mets kept him in Port St. Lucie for extended spring training. Expect to see him in Brooklyn with the Cyclones.

2014: Michael Conforto, OF. Already in the majors. After getting red hot to start the season, he's cooled off tremendously. He's had a pretty terrible past month and currently has a wrist issue. I still expect him to figure it all out and become a force for the next decade. Still has a ridiculously sweet swing. Hitting .233 with 9 homeruns and 29 RBI's.

2013: Dominic Smith, 1B. Playing for the Binghamton Mets, he's had a somewhat "meh" season so far. Not a lot of power to speak of, and has already had a few cold streaks. Hitting .273 with 4 homeruns and 11 doubles. I expect him to stay in Binghamton for the season.

2012: Gavin Cecchini, SS. Having a nice offensive season for the Las Vegas 51's, Gavin is making a ton of contact, without putting up huge power numbers. Hitting .311 in 44 games with only 23 strikeouts is a great stat line. He's on pace to replicate his numbers from last season. The only issue is that errors seem to be creeping up on him. I'm not sure if he sticks at SS, but I could see him as a VERY solid 2B in the future.

2011: Brandon Nimmo, OF. THIS is what people have been waiting for with Brandon. The kid is at the highest level of competition in the minors and he's finally catching fire. And I mean FIRE. 6 multi-hit games in his last 10, clubbing his way to a .462 batting average during that period. Hitting .330 overall this season, tied for second in the league with 5 triples. 38 k's in 51 games. I don't think power will ever be a huge part of his game, but with the way Citi Field plays I think he could have a lot of fun with his propensity to triple. The only thing keeping him off the major league roster is a lack of room. There's 5 outfielders on the roster, and there's no reason to bring him up to sit on the bench. But I would be VERY surprised if he's not fighting for a spot on the expanded roster towards September and for a full time role in spring training next year.
