In a surprise to no one at all in the world, Yoenis Cespedes informed the Mets he was opting out of his current 3 year deal. The outfielder was widely considered the engine to the Mets offense, and the team will now have to compete with the rest of MLB for his services in the future.

No one should be surprised. Honestly I'd be shocked if he hadn't opted out. The dude has his faults. He loves swinging at high fastballs and missed a lot of them. He can take plays off in the outfield. He seemingly loves golf maybe a little too much.

And with that being said, the Mets are a FAR better team with him in the lineup. He protects the rest of the batting order and can singlehandedly change the face of any game with a single swing of the bat.

The dude is gonna get paid. And I don't know if it's going to be by the Mets.

If it isn't, the Mets need to figure out how to get a right handed bat into the outfield. Bruce, Conforto and Granderson is too many righties. Also, they need to get Conforto on the right track ASAP. I've heard the rumors online the Mets may go outside the organization for right handed power in the outfield or at first base. That's fine with me, but there needs to be more consistency in the batting order. You can't have Duda, Wright and whoever gets knocked out at second base filling up the disabled list.
