A Middletown man was convicted for stealing Christmas gifts from multiple Orange County homes.

In Orange County Court, an Orange County Jury found 21-year-old Octavius Wilborn guilty of two counts of 2nd-degree burglary. Wilborn was accused of stealing Christmas gifts from homes in the Town of Wawayanda and Hamptonburgh in December 2014.

Prosecutors had argued that in December 2014, Wilborn, and three other men engaged in a burglary spree throughout western Orange County. Two of the men, Jamal Bynum, 20, and Emanuel Mosley, 22, both of Middletown previously pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree burglary. Both are awaiting sentencing.

According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Wilborn, aided by Bynum, Mosley and another man, burglarized homes during the college holiday break stealing numerous Christmas presents. The residents were home and asleep during one burglary. Wilborn also searched the internet to try and locate other homes in Orange County to burglarize.

“To steal presents from children during the holidays makes those crimes even more heinous,” Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said in a statement. We will simply not tolerate groups of burglars preying on homeowners. We will be recommending a state prison sentence for each of the defendants who are convicted in these matters.”

Wilborn faces up to 15-years in prison for each of the two burglaries. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 26.

A fourth man, Jonathan Pierre, 20, has also been charged by an Orange County Grand Jury for taking part in the burglaries. He is scheduled to go to trial on May 16.
