UPDATE, 9AM:

The area travel ban has been lifted. In addition, the state of emergency in Ulster and Dutchess counties has been lifted.


UPDATE, 3:45AM:

The National Weather Service has lowered its snow accumulation prediction significantly as the storm tracked further east than initially anticipated.

Dutchess, Putnam, Orange and parts of Columbia and Greene counties are under a winter storm warning until Wednesday at 1AM. Snow fall accumulations are projected to be between 8-12 inches for these areas.

Ulster and parts of Columbia and Greene counties are under a winter storm advisory until Wednesday at 1AM. Snow fall accumulations are projected to be between 4-8 inches for these areas.

UPDATE, 7:30PM:

Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro has declared a State of Emergency in the county.


UPDATE, 5:32PM:

Gov. Cuomo's office announced road travel will be restricted for non-essential vehicles at 11PM in counties effected by the blizzard.


UPDATE, 2:32PM

Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a State of Emergency in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester counties.


UPDATE, 12:33PM

The New York State Thruway closing to tractor trailers at 4PM, NBC New York is reporting. The decision to fully close the Thruway at 11PM will be made by 4PM.


UPDATE, 11:51AM

The Office of the Ulster County Executive is urging residents to limit travel during the storm. The county's warming center has been activated at Clinton Avenue United Methodist Church in Kingston.

UCAT Bus Service will be suspended at 6PM, with service likely remaining suspended throughout Tuesday, according to the Office of the Ulster County Executive.


ORIGINAL POST: 9AM

The Hudson Valley and much of the Northeast is preparing for a massive winter storm that could bring over 24 inches of snow to some areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning is in effect for Dutchess, Ulster, Greene and Columbia counties from Monday at 1PM to Tuesday at 1AM and a blizzard warning for Orange and Putnam counties from Monday at 1PM to Tuesday at midnight.

The Weather Channel predicts a 30 percent chance of flurries beginning at noon on Monday in central Dutchess. The chance of snow will increase throughout the day, reaching a 95 percent probability by 10PM.

The National Weather Service predicts the heavy snowfall will begin late Monday into Tuesday night, with maximum snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour. Currently, the National Weather Service estimates snowfall accumulation will be between 12 to 18 inches in the Hudson Valley.
