There is $14 billion in unclaimed funds in New York state with more than $300 million owed to Hudson Valley residents. LoHud reports the figures were discovered after a review of state records.

The unclaimed money dates all the way back to the 1940s and comes from a variety of sources including court settlements, bank accounts and inheritances.

It's estimated that up to $9 of the $14 billion is owed to out of state residents. Most of the in state funds are owed to people in the five boroughs of New York City. However, the largest amount owed goes to Scarsdale in Westchester with around $15 million floating in the breeze.
