Mother Nature is kicking up her heels today and the National Weather Service has issued several weather watches as a result.

A Heat Advisory was issued this morning and is in effect until 8 tonight. According to the National Weather Service, the heat index values for this afternoon and early evening will feel like more like 100 due to temperatures in the lower 90's and dew points in the lower 70's. This combination will increase the risk for heat related health issues, especially for the elderly, those with chronic health problems such as lung and heart disease, those working outdoors, and other heat-sensitive groups of people.

This afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Hudson Valley, in effect until 8 tonight. Conditions are favorable for strong to severe storms developing this afternoon. In fact, radar indicates that some of these could hit during the evening commute.

A Special Weather statement for Dutchess and Ulster Counties was issued just a few minutes before this writing, and while that particular storm may already be gone by the time you read this, the National Weather Service is warning that storms this afternoon could rapidly intensify and catch people off-guard.

We are watching all of this and will update you as it becomes necessary
