The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Prescription drugs are now the second most abused category of drugs in the United States and evidence suggests that the majority of these drugs are obtained from medicine cabinets of friends and family.

The New Paltz Police Department in conjunction with the Greater New Paltz Community Partnership will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 10th Annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, September 26.

If you have prescription medications that you would like to discard of safely you can do so utilizing the Med Return Box located in the front foyer of the New Paltz Police Department. According to the DEA, in the previous nine Take-Back events nationwide from 2010-2014, 4,823,251 pounds, or 2,411 tons of drugs were collected.
