National Pecan Pie Day, How Do You Take It?
July 12, 2016 is National Pecan Pie Day. Another food holiday that people will choose to or not to participate in. Pecan Pie, I have found, is something that people either really like or really dislike.
Maybe you are just not a fan of nuts? How about adding chocolate chips and bourbon to the pecan pie base and make it a Derby Pie? Or add crushed up pretzels to the mix to capitalize on the sweet/salty phenomenon. I have also seen a few recipes online that ask you to mix in crystallized ginger and rum for a more Caribbean twist. Oh, what about a pecan pie cheesecake? Are you a bacon lover? I found a recipe that includes Bacon and Bourbon in a pecan pie. Want to feel like you are combining a few different pies at Thanksgiving? There is a recipe for a Sweet Potato Pecan Pie. Maybe you need some coconut with your pecan pie? There is a recipe for a German Chocolate Cake version of pecan pie.
Can't say I am going to run home and make a pecan pie today, but I will definitely think differently about it in the future. Which version of pecan pie is your favorite?
