It's been a big year for Stewart Airport in Newburgh, as they're having their best year since 2008 in terms of overall traffic. But could 2018 be even bigger?

Hudson Valley One reports the bulk of increased traffic is a result of adding Norwegian Air to their list of carriers. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have just released encouraging numbers for the Hudson Valley's largest airport.

According to the Port Authority figures, just under 26,000 people flew out of Stewart in August of 2016 as opposed to more than 56,000 in August of this year. Traditionally, less people fly out of Stewart in the fall and winter, showing a 15% drop in travel. But that was before Norwegian's arrival and there is hope they will see less of a drop off this year.

To a lesser degree, Allegiant Air has helped increase traffic as well. Their seasonal flights focus mainly on vacation destinations.

It certainly is a lot easier to get to Stewart than it is to get ti La Guardia, JFK or White Plains. Do you plan to fly out of Stewart anytime soon? And can you please pack us in your luggage if you're heading off to Ireland? We need to get back there soon.
