This might not be news to you, and it might not be news to me, but it's becoming increasingly clear that it's news to some people out there in the world: Tattoos are permanent.

Look, I love tattoos. I have tattoos. I enjoy looking at tattoos. I love the history, the art, the culture of it all. It's great. But, of course, you have to keep that whole permanence thing in mind. Not only as someone getting a tattoo, but as someone giving them. I mean, I can imagine tattoo artists get a lot of people coming in asking for things that are scattered, poorly thought-out, or offensive, and I would hope that any artist worth his or her salt would see it as their responsibility to either modify the terrible idea to something that won't actually ruin the person's life. Or just refuse to do it.

Like, say, if someone wanted "420" tattooed on his or her forehead.
