No fishing license? No problem! June 27 kicks off Free Fishing Weekend in New York State.

During the last weekend in June anyone can fish the fresh or marine waters of New York State without a license. The Department of Environmental Conservation organizes the annual weekend as a way to encourage New Yorkers to enjoy the many beautiful fishing spots around the state.

It's a great way to try out fishing for the first time.

There are a few suggestions the DEC has for taking advantage of the free weekend. For those who've never dropped a line in the water before, it's a great way to try out fishing for the first time. If you're already an angler and know someone who's never been fishing, it's also a great way to get them started and share in your love of the sport. Even out of state visitors are welcome to come and fish the waters of New York during the weekend.

Free Fishing Weekend is also the perfect time to bring the kids out for their very first fishing experience. The DEC website even has some great advice for making your child's first fishing trip a truly memorable one.
