Backups on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge today are reportedly due to a person who jumped from the bridge around noon.

The Times Herald Record reports that the State Police have begun an investigation that includes firefighters and marine units.  Apple maps shows backups on Route 84 East as far back as the New York State Thruway. Reports indicate that the person in question jumped from the east bound side of the bridge.

There has been construction on the bridge for the past couple of years that is scheduled to end in the Fall. Commuters have been dealing with traffic delays for some time now, especially on the east bound side. Today's delay, however, is for a more serious matter.

This is a developing story and we will bring you more information as it becomes available.
