Newburgh Man in Possession of Loaded Gun, Crack, Police Say
One man who is accused of trespassing inside a Newburgh building was allegedly found with a loaded gun and a large amount of crack cocaine.
On Sunday just before 1 a.m., City of Newburgh Police responded to 222 Broadway for a report of people trespassing. As officers entered the building, two men fled upstairs, police say.
Police were able to capture one of the men. As authorities investigated further, 22-year-old Shakeil Chambers of Newburgh was allegedly found to be in possession of 32.2 grams of crack cocaine and a loaded black 9mm handgun.
Chambers was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies. He was held in city lockup pending arraignment.
The other man’s name is not being released. He was interviewed and released without charges, police say.
