A month into 2016, and Noel Gallagher is already working on his follow-up to last year’s Chasing Yesterday -- and maintaining his status as “f---ing totally awesome.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gallagher revealed he’s currently recording his third solo effort with his backing band the High Flying Birds. Chasing Yesterday arrived almost precisely a year ago, and it was preceded by his 2011 self-titled solo debut.

“I’m in the studio at the minute,” Gallagher said. “I’m in the middle of f---ing about.”

Gallagher said his next album will draw inspiration from the late, great David Bowie. (The former Oasis man recently named his top five favorite Bowie songs.) “I’ve nicked a little bit of [‘The Jean Genie’],” he said. “The ‘woo-hoo!’ You’ll hear that sooner or later in one of my tracks.”

But Gallagher’s arguably most important status update is he's intent on maintaining his self-proclaimed awesomeness (and no doubt his proclivity to tell it like it is). “I remain f---ing totally awesome,” he joked. “In 2016, I’m as awesome as I was in the back end of 2015. My hair is impeccable; it’s not showing any signs of thinning, at all. I’m f---in’ thriving. Thriving!”
