A tragic crash on the Bronx expressway, early Sunday morning, has left one NYPD officer dead and seven others injured. 25 year old Michael Williams, a 2007 graduate of Arlington High school, was killed after the van the officers were traveling in hit a concrete barrier, according to The Poughkeepsie Journal. Police say Williams was was ejected from the right rear passenger seat window when the van struck the barrier. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The other officers were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries that are not life threatening.

Williams was assigned to the 47th Precinct in The Bronx, where he had worked for the past 8 months. He was also a former part-time deputy sheriff with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. Williams played basketball for Arlington High School, and later went on to play collage ball for Keene State In New Hampshire.

Arlington Central School District Superintendent Brendan Lyons says

As a school district, whether it's an active student or graduate ... it's a tragedy. Of course, with him being in law enforcement — that makes it even more of a tragedy. He was serving his community, protecting all of us.
