Sunday was not your typical day on the force for a number of police officers in Dutchess County.

Officers are trained to capture fleeing suspects, but typically they don’t have to try and capture a furry four-legged animal!

Hyde Park police spent most of Sunday morning and almost all of the afternoon trying to apprehend an elusive, small, black pot-bellied pig that was on the loose near the Creek Road ball fields.

The animal was described by officers as surprisingly fast with an impressive ability to evade custody.

The pig was so fast that until the animal was finally caught, this blurry picture was the only photo authorities could get of the slippery animal.

At one point, officers did manage to get a leash on it, only for the pig to escape again. Late Sunday afternoon the wild pig chase finally ended.

“This certainly isn't the biggest case we've ever handled but if this is someone's pet I'm sure they're worried sick,” the Hyde Park Police Department posted on their Facebook page. “This falls under the part of the job duties that reads ‘...and other duties as required.’”
