This year's Air Show at Stewart Airport is expected to see over 20 thousand visitors a day and will feature an aircraft that hasn't flown in a show for over a decade.

Last year over 10 thousand people visited the Orange County air show each day. This year, that number is expected to double as some new aircraft have been added to the lineup.

The New York Air Show will take place at Stewart International Airport on September 3 and 4. Headlining the event will be the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds who will join the U.S. Navy's F-18 Hornet, the West Point Parachute Team and a C-17 Transport Demo.

County Executive, Steven Neuhaus, revealed to us that the C-17 Transport is expected to be one of the highlights of the weekend, since the aircraft hasn't been involved in an airshow since disaster struck over 15 years ago.

In July of 2010 a C-17 was making its practice run ahead of the Arctic Thunder Air Show at Elmendorf base in Alaska when it stalled and crashed, killing all four crew members. When asked about safety concerns for the upcoming airshow, Neuhaus said that these events are "Inherently risky things" but many people sill come to them.

Last month there were two fatal accidents involving a Blue Angels jet and pilot near Nashville as well as an F-16 that went down during a flyover at the Air Force Academy's commencement ceremony.

The County Executive went on to say that Stewart Airport is surrounded by a large amount of buffer land for planes to utilize in the off chance there is some sort of emergency. In addition, top notch security provided by the State Police, FBI, Sheriff's office local police will all be there to make sure things run smoothly.

Tickets are already available online for this year's air show, as well as VIP experiences and photo opportunities.

We want to know what you think about attending the air show. Will you be taking your family to see the planes, or will you be staying away because of the risk of danger?
