A Hudson Valley man lost his life while crossing a street in Orange County.

On Sunday around 6:30 p.m., 56-year-old Eliu Rivera of Blooming Grove was walking south on Glenwood Road in the Town of Blooming Grove when he was hit by a 2003 Subaru Forester

Rivera was taken to St Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh where he was ultimately pronounced dead from his injuries.

A joint investigation conducted by New York State Police and Town of Blooming Grove Police Department led to the discovery of the alleged driver at his home, a short distance from the accident.

Richard Aiello, 37, of Blooming Grove was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident with additional charges pending further investigation.

The Salisbury Mills Fire District assisted at the scene.
