An 18-year old was allegedly in the planning stages of some sort of attack at a school.

The Washingtonville Police department arrested an 18-year old Washingtonville High School student for making credible threats against the school.

The student, Brendan Vaughan, was arrested and charged with Making a Terroristic threat (class d felony), and two counts Falsely Reporting an Incident. He was arraigned and remanded to Orange County Jail.

A search of Vaughan's home was conducted on June 3, 2018. Investigators discovered evidence at the home and obtained a statement from the suspect that he was in the planning stages of some sort of attack at the school and posed a threat to public safety, authorities said.

Washingtonville Police Chief, Brian Zaccaro said:

Our department and the FBI have been working closely with the Washingtonville School District as this investigation developed. We are confident if not for the vigorous work by investigators involved, and the cooperation of the district, this threat could have resulted in a catastrophe
