A massive outdoor water park and resort could be coming to the Hudson Valley if plans come together. County officials along with representatives from Great Wolf Resorts have been inching closer to getting a deal done that would see the project come to life at the former Camp La Guardia property. The Times Herald-Record reports a proposal to subdivide the county-owned land needed to accommodate the 30 acres needed could be presented to the County Legislature within two months.

The 258 acre Camp La Guardia was once used as a massive homeless shelter for New York City. Orange County purchased the property in 2007 in hopes of fostering development. In the past, the county has also considered selling off the land for dense residential development.

According to their website, Great Wolf Resorts was built by families for families. They operate 18 parks across 16 states along with one in Canada. Their closest location in the Poconos opened in 2005. In a recent statement, the company feels Orange County family friendly environment would be a good fit as well as taking its close proximity to New York City into consideration.

There are still details that need to be worked out but let's hope this all comes together, the property has been sitting dormant since NYC closed the shelter in 2007.
