An Orange County woman man is accused of driving at night while impaired by drugs and without her headlights on in Ulster County.

Last Thursday around 8:40 p.m., a New Paltz Police officer allegedly spotted a car driving on Main Street in New Paltz without the car’s headlights on. The driver is also accused of committing several other vehicle and traffic violations.

While speaking with the officer, the driver's eyes were dilated, her motor coordination appeared impaired, and speech slurred, police say. The officer then noticed several prescription bottles in the vehicle and was allegedly told by the driver, 23-year-old Olivia K. Zagoya of Walden, that she took medication before she started driving.

Zagoya then failed her field sobriety test, officials say. She was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a weapon and driving while ability impaired by drugs, misdemeanors.

The criminal possession of a controlled substance charge was filed because the prescription medication was not prescribed to Zagoya, police say.

Zagoya was processed at the New Paltz Police Department and released on traffic tickets and an appearance ticket to return to the Town of New Paltz Court at a later date.
