Orange DA Sends Another To Prison For Gun Crime

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler issued a statement on Friday announcing that Newburgh resident David Fryar has been sentenced to ten years in state prison followed by five years post-release supervision for a gun crime that occurred in Newburgh in March of 2017.

According to Hoovler the 19-year-old Fryar pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Orange County Court on November 16th.  Fryar had been arrested on February 12, 2017 by authorities for possessing a loaded .32 caliber semi-automatic pistol in the vicinity of Henry and Liberty Streets in the city while police were there investigating a non-fatal shooting that had taken place at that location.

The investigation into the shooting was conducted by the City of Newburgh Police Department and an investigator from Hoovler's office that is tasked with investigating shootings in Newburgh.  The agencies were assisted by the NYS Division of Parole who located the weapon during a home visit to Fryar's residence on March 24, 2017.
