The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an alert about the thousands of gallons of sewage entering a city waterway in the City of Kingston Monday.

The leak, which was releasing five gallons of sewage per minute continued for 192 hours, resulting in close to 58,000 gallons flowing into the Twaalfskill Brook.

[City Engineer Ralph] Swenson said the cause of the overflow probably was a clog in the Washington Avenue tunnel, somewhere between Gilead Street, where the flow was spotted, and Linderman Avenue.

As of 9:30am November 16th, the state Department of Environmental Conservation is reporting that the leak, which was apparently coming from the area of 47 Gilead St., has been contained.

This is not the first issue in the area; as you can see from this article, Riverkeeper describes a similar situation in the Twaalfskill Brook back in the year 2013.
