May 3, 1933, was the day that an immense talent was introduced to the world. The legendary James Brown was born and went on to a legendary career where he earned the nickname "The Godfather of Soul." His influence eclipsed genre boundaries, and today, in honor of his birthday, P.O.D. have covered one of his most well known songs -- "It's a Man's Man's Man's World." You listen to the full song in the player above, and see a one minute teaser of the video below.

P.O.D. put their own spin on the song, giving it a harder rock edge while also incorporating a reggae element into the performance. Singer Sonny Sandoval injects the vocal soul into the track, while Marcos Curiel, Wuv Bernardo and Traa Daniels make sure the song swings, giving it an undeniable beat.

"As a band, we've always wanted to do a P.O.D. rendition of James Brown's 'It's a Man's World,'" Marcos Curiel tells us. "We are huge fans of music, not to mention the Godfather of Soul himself. In honor of his birthday today, we thought it would be quite fitting to show people a version we've been working on for quite some time, out of respect. We hope you all enjoy it."

Brown's career spanned six decades, featuring such hits as "I Got You (I Feel Good)," "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" and "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine." He's a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. Brown died at the age of 73 from congestive heart failure on Christmas Day in 2006.

P.O.D. will be back on the road for a pair of festival appearances in June. See their tour dates here.
