Last week, like two days after the snowstorm, I was driving over the Mid-Hudson Bridge into Highland and encountered a situation with those stand up orange tube dividers that they have to indicate the lanes. It appears they are really called 'warning poles' but you definitely knew what I was talking about from my description, right?

Anyway, there were tons of cars headed into Poughkeepsie, naturally, there were two lanes going in that direction while I was on the side where there was only one. Every time I'm on that bridge I feel like I'm on the side with only one lane.

I digress.

I saw one of those tall orange dividers--ahem, warning poles--flying into the air, and a box truck driving just ahead of it.

I was on the phone with my mom, when this giant SLAM happened, and we were both left wondering what the heck it was, as she clearly heard it over the phone. Looking into my rearview mirror, I saw one of those tall orange dividers--ahem, warning poles--flying into the air, and a box truck driving just ahead of it. It seems like the truck got a little too close to the divider, or it was already down and got kicked up at my car when the truck drove by.  Warning - the pole definitely hit my car and I most definitely didn't run it over myself.

When I got home later that day, I inspected my car but didn't see any damage...or so I thought at the time.  I checked it a few different times over the next few days, but apparently, all the salt residue on my car had done a great job of hiding the fact that I now have a giant gash in my drivers side back door, along with various other dings and scratches from where that stupid pole hit me. Amazing what a car wash will help you to uncover.

So, now I need to find someone to help bang this dent out and get the scratches painted over, and in the meantime, I flinch a little every time I get onto the bridge and see those tall, orange, nonsense dividers that we have come to know as warning poles, waving at me.

End. Rant.
