Pirate Ship Finds New Home in Hudson Valley

People in the Hudson Valley will soon have the chance to live a pirate's life.

A 55-foot pirate ship purchased by the owners of The Helm, a restaurant in Greenwood Lake, arrived in the Orange County on Wednesday.

The ship was an impulse buy by the owners after seeing an ad for the vessel on Facebook. The owners purchased the ship in Virginia for $15,000 in December 2017.

“You go through life and you say what if? what if? what if? With a little investment, who knows what the upside could be," The Helm Co-owner Mark Palmieri told NorthJersey.com. "Even if we just have a pirate ship outside, and that's all it ever is for us, it still will pay for itself.”

Special tasting events, private pirate parties and more are planned. Overnight stays are a possibility as the boat can sleep six to eight and fit a table of 10.

The 55-foot pirate ship with a skeleton crew is a modern boat crafted to look like an old pirate ship. The vessel features a pirate badge, two cannons and a crew of skeletons.
