Every summer, I like to help out and give you a few pointers as to what is and is not acceptable to bring with you on vacation. With the specificity of TSA rules and regulations about the size and shape and weight of items you're allowed to bring, it's easy to get a little bit overwhelmed.

Fear not; I will make sure you know about the status of the major, essential items that you'll want to bring with you on vacation and make sure that your time in the airport isn't any more miserable than it absolutely needs to be, which, admittedly, is probably going to be overwhelmingly miserable anyway.

So, in order to avoid being caught red-faced and standing awkwardly in your socks as the TSA leads you through an irritating and embarrassing voyage through all of your own belongings, here's what you can bring and what would be best left at home.
