Dutchess County Police allege that a Beacon woman stole nearly $35,000 in daycare assistance over the past three years.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division, in conjunction with the Special Investigations Unit of the Dutchess County Community and Family Services Department, revealed that 41-year-old Elida G. Almonte, of the City of Beacon, allegedly stole $34,758 in daycare assistance. Almonte is accused of taking the assistance money between Janurary 2011 and August 2014.

According to Dutchess County Sheriff's office, Almonte stole the benefits by hiding the fact that there was other incoming coming into her family's residence. Had that fact been known, Almonte would have been declared ineligible to receive the benefits.

Almonte was arrested and charged with grand larceny as well as welfare fraud, both felonies. After being processed she was arraigned at the City of Poughkeepsie Court, and was released. She's due back in City of Poughkeepsie Court on Jan. 26.
