Police are continuing their investigation and seeking the public’s help into the murder of a 24-year-old Hudson Valley woman.

On March 1, 1987, Sherri Orofino was visiting a friend in Queens. She left around 3:00 a.m., to her home in Millbrook. Orofino was driving a 1987 Toyota MR-2.

Two days later Sherri’s husband called police and said his wife never returned home from Queens. Police in Westchester soon found Orofino’s abandoned vehicle off of the Taconic State Parkway on Route 134 in the Town of Yorktown.

Six months after her disappearance, Sherri’s skeletal remains were found scattered in a densely-wooded area near the Croton Reservoir.

Her body had decomposed and no apparent cause of death could be determined.

Police describe Orofino as a white female, with long blonde hair who weighed approximately 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing a yellow blouse over a black tank top, black jeans and a black jacket.

The death of Orofino continues to be actively investigated by police.

Authorities say they’ve had a number of leads throughout the near 30 year investigation, but as of today the homicide has yet to be solved.

Investigators continue to comb the Croton Reservoir area searching for clues that may bring closure to Sherri’s family.

On Tuesday, State Police once again made a public plea asking anyone with any information to contact Investigator Timothy Gleason of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation by calling (914) 737-7171. Please refer to SJS # 3011688.

All calls may be kept confidential.
