A Westchester County Police K-9 has a new piece of "armor." Axel is a pure breed German Shepard, who according to Patch.com, has been with the Westchester force for about a year has been gifted the special vest. The vest donation was made possible with the help of Vested Interest in K9s, a non for profit 501(c3) organization based in Massachusetts. Each vest helps to protect the K-9 officer against both bullets and knife wounds.

– Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. offers vest options ranging in value from $1795 – $2234
– Vest weight is between 4 – 5 pounds, depending on the size of vest required to fit properly
– All vests are custom made to fit each K9 applicant
– Vests are made in the U.S.A. and selected with the assistance of an Advisory Board member, who has current or previous experience working in Law Enforcement with a K9 or K9 teams
