Police have charged a man with leaving his dog in a hot car while food shopping at a Hudson Valley supermarket.

According to police, a temperature check showed that the vehicle was 110 degrees.

According to the Daily Freeman, police say Scott Millard of Greenwich, Rhode Island was shopping at the Price Chopper in Saugerties on Saturday around lunch time. That's when authorities were alerted by motorists that a dog was inside a vehicle that was parked at the supermarket.

Police say that they determined the animal was overheating. Millard returned to his car while police were attending to the dog. According to police on the scene, a temperature check showed that the vehicle was 110 degrees.

Millard was charged with confinement of an animal in a vehicle with extreme temperatures and is scheduled to appear in Saugerties Village court.
