A hospitalized Hudson Valley man has a quick thinking police officer to thank for saving his home from being burglarized.

On Tuesday around 1 p.m, an off-duty officer from the Rosendale Police Department noticed someone walking suspiciously around a home. The officer knew that the homeowner was hospitalized, police say.

On-duty officers responded to the off-duty officer's call reporting suspicious activity and allege that 51-year-old Gerald J. O'Dell of Kingston tried to break into the second floor of the home.

O’Dell was charged with attempted burglary, a felony, and a violation for trespass. He was arraigned in the Town of Rosendale Court with bail set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. O'Dell is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Rosendale Court at a later date.
