A sex offender was arrested by City of Poughkeepsie police on Tuesday after he allegedly failed to register his address in Hyde Park.

Theodore J. Smith, 31, was taken into custody at 11:08AM near 165 South Cross Road in Hyde Park. His entry in the New York sex offender database lists his previous address as a residence on Corlies Avenue in the City of Poughkeepsie.

Smith was sentenced to six years probation May 2004 and registered as a risk level two sex offender for having coerced a 15-year-old into having sex with him.

Smith was charged with failing to register or verify his address, a felony, and on an active warrant for a felony burglary charge.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the Hyde Park Police Department assisted City of Poughkeepsie detectives in the investigation.

Smith was was arraigned at City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
