Police: Kingston Man Crashes Car into Two Buildings While in Possession of Drugs

A Kingston man, in possession of drugs, is accused of crashing into two buildings, injuring an Ulster County resident, and a police officer while attempting to flee police.

Police say a vehicle was stopped for a traffic infraction on the Boulevard near Klingberg Avenue in the City of Kingston. The operator of the vehicle, Recardo M. Langston, 31, of Kingston, then allegedly fled.

While trying to flee police, Langston is accused of striking property at a residence on the Boulevard. He led police from multiple agencies on a brief pursuit, which ended when he crashed his car on Abeel Street near the intersection of Wilbur Avenue after striking another building.

During the chase, Langston abruptly stopped, causing a police car to slam into his vehicle, officials say.

After crashing his car, Langston is accused of trying to flee on foot. He was soon apprehended by members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team (URGENT) and their K-9, Triton.

During the foot chase Langston was seen trying to discard an item, which allegedly turned out to be over four ounces of cocaine.

Langston was treated at Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley (Broadway Campus) for injuries he sustained from the K-9 while being apprehended. An URGENT member was also treated at the hospital for knee and shoulder injuries.

Further investigation determined property from a residence on the Boulevard was damaged after being struck by Langston’s vehicle.

Police also say a person from that residence was hit by Langston’s car as he was fleeing. The resident for treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

Langston was charged 2nd and 3rd degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, assault, reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, felonies, reckless driving, resisting arrest, 3 counts of criminal mischief, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, misdemeanors, and numerous traffic infractions.

He was arraigned in the City of Kingston Court and remanded without bail to the Ulster County Jail.

URGENT was assisted by Ulster County Sheriff’s Office patrols, New York State Police and Kingston City Police.
