A Kingston man is accused of violating an order of protection and hitting a women.

On Wednesday, New York State Police responded to Motel 19 located on State Route 28 in the Town of Ulster for a report of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival troopers determined that 24-year-old Jose L. Colon of Kingston had unwanted physical contact with a woman.

Colon is accused of hitting the woman in the face with a closed fist and preventing her from calling 911 by striking the phone out of her hand as she was attempting to make the emergency call.

Colon is court ordered to stay away from the woman, police say. He fled the area prior to police arrival. An arrest warrant was issued for him.

On Sunday, with the assistance of the City of Kingston Police Department, Colon was taken into custody and charged with first-degree criminal contempt, a felony, and a misdemeanor for fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Colon was arraigned in the Town of Ulster Court and remanded to the Ulster county Jail for lack of bail.
