A Bard College student was arrested, and charged with raping another student.

Sam Ketchum, 22 was arrested by Dutchess county police, after the victim alleges she was raped on Feb.8. The incident was reported to the college after it happened, but it was not brought to the attention of the police until earlier this month, as reported by Time Warner News.

As reported by ABC, Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Captain John Watterson said:

That's not optimal for us. We always want to become aware of things, especially serious things of this nature, as soon as possible to conduct our investigation. In this case, unfortunately, we didn't become aware of it for two months.

Ketchum has been charged with third-degree rape and was released on $2,500 cash bail.

The College said in part of a statement:

The college followed the federal Title IX procedures, The initial result of that investigation is now being appealed and the appeal is due to be completed (Wednesday). The accuser was told at the outset that she had the right to contact the police and file a criminal complaint, which she did last week

The alleged assault appears to be an isolated incident. Students should not be concerned for their safety.
