Police say a man who was driving the wrong way on the New York State Thruway in the Hudson Valley was intoxicated.

On Saturday around 2:30 a.m., State Police responded to a report of a wrong way Nissan Xterra traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-87 near the Tappan Zee Bridge. Troopers, with the assistance of Wrecker 1, a stand by tow truck, quickly pulled the vehicle over before any accidents. No one was reported injured.

The driver of the vehicle, Simon Rashid, 31, of Hollis was found to be intoxicated, police say. Rashid was transported and processed at State Police Tarrytown, where he refused to submit to a breath test to determine the alcohol content in his system.

Rashid was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor and multiple vehicle and traffic violations

Rashid was turned over to a sober third party and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Village of Tarrytown Court on a future date.
