An Ulster County man allegedly under the influence of drugs is accused of making up an emergency and assaulting a police officer.

Members of the Ulster County Sheriff's Office responded to the Mirror Lake Mobile Home Park in the Town of Esopus for a 911 call reporting an unwanted person at the location attempting to make entry into a home.

Arriving officers say they determined there was no emergency at the residence. Police allege 27-year-old Robert Kovacs, of Kingston falsely reported an emergency and was under the influence of several controlled substances.

Kovacs is accused of acting extremely aggressively towards police, hitting an officer, and damaging property. Police say Kovas continued to act aggressively until a Taser was used.

Kovacs was ultimately restrained and then transported to Vassar Hospital for evaluation.

Tuesday, Kovas was released from the hospital and arrested. He was charged with 2nd-degree assault, a felony, falsely reporting an emergency, two counts of criminal mischief, obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.

Kovas was arraigned in Town of Ulster Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.
