An Orange County man is accused of trying to rob a local deli. After he was caught, he allegedly damaged a police station in Ulster County.

On Saturday, New York State Police investigated reports of an attempted robbery at the Borderline Deli on Burlingham Road in Pine Bush. Thomas Mann, 31, of Pine Bush entered the deli, implied he had a gun and demanded cash, police say.

The cashier verbally confronted Mann and Mann fled the store in a gray 2012 Toyota Corolla. The deli clerk and a customer who were inside the store were not injured, officials say.

Shortly after, a trooper spotted the car on State Route 209 in Ellenville. Mann was arrested and taken into custody.

While in custody, Mann is accused of damaging a wall at the Ellenville State Police department. Mann was charged with attempted robbery, a felony, and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in the Town of Wawarsing Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 secured bond. He’s due back in court on a later date.
