An Orange County man is accused of violating an order of protection, leaving the scene, crashing his car, and then hiding in the woods.

New Paltz Police charged 36-year-old Cory J. Straub of Middletown with criminal contempt, and aggravated family offense, both class E felonies.

New Paltz Police responded to Route 32 North in the Town of New Paltz for a report of a car accident and a male and female arguing on the side of the roadway.

Police say when officers arrived Straub fled the scene. Authorities learned the two were involved in a domestic dispute and Straub had violated an order of protection. He then crashed his car trying to leave the area.

After leaving the scene, Straub was located by officers hiding in the woods a short distance from the area.

Straub was arraigned in the Town of New Paltz Court he was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to the Town of New Paltz Court on August 16.

The New Paltz Police Department was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police.
