Local police are hoping for help after an armed Hispanic man allegedly tried to rob two women as they sat in their car at Stop & Shop.

On Saturday just before 6 p.m., two women were approached by a man while sitting in their car in the parking lot at the Stop & Shop on Route 17M in Monroe.

The women told police that an unknown man knocked on the driver’s side window. When the driver rolled down the window, the man reached in an grabbed her arm.

The male spoke in a heavy Spanish accent and demanded money from the driver, police say.

The passenger told authorities she noticed the man was holding a knife in his right hand.

The driver quickly rolled up her window and temporarily trapped the man’s arm inside the car. The man was able to free himself and ran off towards Route 17M.

Monroe police and a police K-9 searched the area, but were unable to find the suspect.

The suspecte is described as a Hispanic man in his mid-to-late thirties with rounded head, rounded eyes, weathered face, dark black mustache. He was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.
