Reports of two dogs dying in a hot vehicle on Saturday have police seeking your help in finding the pet owners responsible.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that witnesses say the dogs were left in the trunk of a car during the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Poughkeepsie on Saturday. The incident was reported after a bystander claims to have seen the couple opening the trunk to find the deceased animals around 7pm.

The witness was able to grab a photograph of the vehicle's license plate before it drove off. Police say they have traced the vehicle back to an address in New York City. but no further information was available.

Temperatures were in the 80s on Saturday, creating a condition inside the car that most people would realize was unsafe for animals.
