A Hudson Valley suspect who was on the run after allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old girl has been arrested. Police say the suspect is the victim’s stepfather.

Around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Spring Valley Police received a report of a person stabbed at 109 Lake Street in Spring Valley. Officials responded to the location and found a 15-year-old female victim with multiple stab wounds to her body.

According to Spring Valley Police, the suspect, 32-year-old Walter Carpio-Galica, from Spring Valley, is the victim’s stepfather. He fled the scene in a 2014 Toyota owned by the victim’s mother. A search for Carpio-Galica started immediately. A National (NCIC) alarm was put out for the suspect and vehicle.

Spring Valley Police were notified that the suspect was found, and being held by authorities, after he crashed his car on Interstate 120 in Georgia.

The victim was taken to Westchester Medical Center and needed surgery to repair her injuries. She is now recovering at the hospital.
