A Hudson Valley man is accused of driving drunk into a pole, without a license and fleeing the scene of the accident.

On Monday around 12:15 a.m. Saugerties Police responded to Route 9W for reports of a car hitting a pole.

An investigation determined that 25-year-old Christopher I. Prinz of Saugerties was driving a 2002 Ford Pickup Truck North on 9W when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and hit a pole, police say.

Prinz is accused of fleecing the scene of the accident before police arrived. He was apprehended a short time later by the investigating officers.

Prinz was taken into custody and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, driving under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor and violations for failure to submit to a chemical test, speed not reasonable and leaving the scene of a property damage vehicle crash.

Prinz was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in Lieu of $2,500 cash $5,000 bond.

The sudden closure of a popular buffet, a local heading to the NBA and a wanted Hudson Valley sex offender tops this week in local news stories.
