Poughkeepsie Father Charged with Breaking Son’s Ribs
City of Poughkeepsie Police say a 28-year-old Poughkeepsie father squeezed his 3-month-old son out of frustration, resulting in cracked ribs.
On Friday City of Poughkeepsie Police Detectives arrested William Nelson following an overnight investigation into a reported child abuse. During the course of the investigation, Detectives learned that Nelson squeezed his 3-month-old son out of frustration because the child would not eat. This resulted in the child’s ribs to fracture. The baby was treated at a local hospital.
Nelson was arraigned at City of Poughkeepsie Court and charged with 2nd-degree assault, a class D felony. He was remanded to Dutchess County Jail on a $15,000 cash or bond.
Dutchess County Child Protective Services took custody of the child.
Detectives were assisted by the Dutchess County Child Advocacy Center and Dutchess County Child Protective Services.
