City of Poughkeepsie firefighters responded to a call reporting heavy smoke in an abandoned apartment Thanksgiving morning. They made an unexpected discovery in the oven.

Todd Bender from the First Responders News Network reports residents from a first floor Main Street apartment called 911 after a smoke alarm had been going off for nearly an hour upstairs. When authorities arrived on the scene, they proceeded to the second level and knocked in the door and were greeted with heavy smoke.

Upon making their way to the kitchen, that's when things got a little strange. They found a turkey and a ham cooking in the oven. The grease from the ham was spilling over and causing the thick smoke. No neighbors took responsibility for the meal.

While the fire department on the scene left the food in tact in the abandoned apartment, they did not go hungry. In fact, Tony and the crew from the Derby on Main Street provided all three Poughkeepsie firehouses on Hooker, Main Street and Clover with Thanksgiving meals.
