A Poughkeepsie man and two females were arrested in connection to 15 burglaries or attempted burglaries in Dutchess County.

Monday morning a Shell gas station was burglarized. A vehicle containing 33-year-old Jason M. Reed, of Poughkeepsie and two unnamed females was stopped near the scene.

During the traffic stop reported stolen cigarettes from the Shell station were recovered. After an investigation all three were charged in connection with the burglary.

The discovery led to a multi-agency investigation and the allegations that Reed and the two women were responsible for breaking into 12 gas stations or convenience stores in Dutchess County and stealing cartons of cigarettes since May 3.

Police say the trio are also responsible for 3 other attempted burglaries.

Proceeds from the other burglaries have not been recovered. Officials believe the crimes were drug-related and the businesses were randomly chosen.

All 3 were charged with 3rd-degree burglary, a felony. They were arraigned in Town of Hyde Park Court. Reed was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond,

The females were released to appear at a later date. The identities of the females have not be released for investigatory reasons, police say.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, Town of Hyde Park Police, Town of East Fishkill Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, and Town of Fishkill Police worked together on the investigation.
