Just how many Poughkeepsie residents left town between 2010 and 2014? Quite a bit, according to the latest census numbers.

CapitalNewYork.com reports that new estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate that New York State's population increased by more than 50,000 people from 2013 to 2014. The fastest growing areas were in the New York City suburbs of Rockland and Westchester counties, which grew by 3.9% and 2.48%, respectively.

Poughkeepsie has one of the the highest decrease in residents over the past four years in New York State

Kiryas Joel in Orange County was New York's fastest-growing municipality on the list with the village growing 10.27% over the past four years, bringing its population up to 22,246. The other Hudson Valley counties saw decreases in population, including Sullivan with a 2.07% decrease, Ulster with 1.12% and Dutchess, which lost 0.31%.

Poughkeepsie, however, has one of the the highest decrease in residents over the past four years in New York State; dropping an incredible 6.79% to just slightly over 30,500 residents.
