A Poughkeepsie woman was arrested for depositing fake checks in Dutchess and Ulster Counties.

In Sept. of 2015, State Police received a complaint from a bank in the Town of Lloyd regarding fraud at their Ulster and Dutchess County branches. In particular, 5 checks that were allegedly passed by 30-year-old Cheron M. Williams on Sept 1, 2015 at a Highland branch.

Police say the checks were alleged to be payroll checks of a social service agency based in Rhinebeck. An investigation found that the all the checks were fake and that Williams had the intent to unlawfully obtain funds from their deposit.

Williams was charged with 5 counts of 2nd-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and 3rd-degree grand larceny, both felonies.

Williams was arraigned in the Town of Lloyd Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail on $3,000 cash $10,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
